WE EMPOWER HER

Every girl deserves to manage her period with dignity.

Refugee-led since 2019. Based in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Isingiro District, Uganda

We Empower Her is a refugee-led organization in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda. We give women and girls the knowledge, the reusable cups, and the confidence to manage their menstrual health safely, so no girl misses school because of her period.

Who We Are

Talking about menstruation and reproductive health is still a taboo in many communities. That silence leads to early pregnancies, health problems, and girls dropping out of school. We Empower Her exists to break that silence.

We are a safe and inclusive space where women and girls can reclaim their bodily autonomy, manage their menstrual health with dignity, and build the leadership skills to thrive. We believe no girl should miss school because of her period, and no one should face stigma for talking about their own body.

Our impact in 2025

Real change, in real communities

  • 1,158 women and girls reached with accurate menstrual health information across 17 named locations.

  • 1,093 reusable cups distributed, with follow-up visits confirming confident, correct use.

  • 2,120 pupils reached through Period Positive Schools, alongside 10 trained teachers.

  • 1,089 community members joined engagement events across eight communities.

  • Reduced absenteeism, with school headmasters confirming fewer girls missing class during their periods.

Girls are now sharing what they learn about menstrual cups with their friends and families, building a culture of openness and mutual support across the whole community.
